The N.Z. I/wn and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., rcnor. on their stock sale held at . yards on Thursday, the 2n^ inst., ns follows:— There, was a modfrriatc entry of sheep, and the cattle yards were well filled, the attendance being about up to the average. Sheep: We yarded and sold under the hammer •2022. under very brisk competition and at prices shpwing distinct increase for all good lines. The sale might be de.'cribed as the briskest that has been held for many Following were the i 'ay's quotations: — Cull ewes 6s, aged do. frchv iQs 2d to 12s, full-mouth ewes ami ewes with sound mouths 13s 3d to l-isSd, i:»jxed ages (4-tooth to 5-year-old) lis6d, I vvo-tooths. which were epecially well competed for, 10s 7d to 17s 10d., Wethers: Not many were on offer. We sold a medium line at IGs, whilst the top prjee was 17s 5d for a very nice pen grown by Mr E. J. Young, Hangaroa. Lambs u*ere a large entry, arid the demand was quite unsatisfied; culls made from 6s 3d to, Bs, shorn lambs (medium quality) 10s Gd, better lines lis ld to lis Sd. woolly lambs (small) Bs, better lines 12s Td to Lis ld. Fats: There, were onjy a few ewes on offer, which made from 14s 2d to ijis 4d. More could have been absorbed. Cattle: We yarded 373, and sold 189. The quality of a number of these was not uj> to the mark, and the demand rail principally for good lines of steers and heifers, which sold quite up to the prices realised at the cattle fair of the previous, week.* In the fat pens cows made from £4 7s 6d to £4 i*ls Cd for tnedium lines, whilst better finished, cows made from £5 ns to £5 15s. The enquiry was not too good for fat cattle. Herd cows £3 10s, cows and calves (a fair average line) £5 'ss, two-year-old heifers from £3 Us to £3 17s 6d; 18 months' steers £3 7s fa £3 10s, two-year-olds £4 lis to £4 12s, three-year-olds m fresh condition £<> is. calves were a large , entry, but many were dairy «or£sOur sales cewprised mixed sexes (small) 26s to 27s fld, tetter lines 30s to 'ifis. As previously Intimated, the next sale will be held on the 16th inst., and thereafter fortnightly during the % remainder of the year.
Messrs F. S. Malcolm and Co. report as follows:— There was a large entry of poultry. Roosters made ..from Is to 2s Gd, putyets 2s. liens ls _d to 2s, fresh egRS 2s 6<l dozen, preserved eggs Is 6d. butter lid to Is, pears and apples lid to 2.d lb, quinces unsaleable at Id, pears l.d to 2d. Kumaras lid, potatoes 6s M bag,, onions l.d lb, cucumbers ls dozen, cabbage 2s doz., tomatoes 2_d lit; small vegetables, is to 2s dozen bundles.
