NGATAPA SPORTS CLUB.
A meeting of the above club wn.s hold m the school on . Tuesday, 31st March. There was a good attendance. The hon. secretary, Mr Ilodgett, read the balancesheet, showing total receipts to be £90 2s, expenditure £67 4s sd, leaving a credit balance of £2*2 17s 7d. In addition the sum of £2 17s obtained from tho use of the horse paddock was handed ovei? to the school committee for the picnic prize fund; £C 5s was' obtained from the sheep-guessing. The president, Mr W. lies, congratulated the executive committee, and especially the secretary, on tho substantial credit balance, nnd on ihe success of the sports, which was chiefly due to his energy and enthusiasm, and he (Mr lies) proposed a hearty vote of thanks to him, wliich was carried by acclamation. Mr lies and Mr Jordan wore appointed trustees to back the sports club's funds. Mr Jordan proposed that the vote of thanks to the secretary should be expressed m some tangible form, and £5 from the funds should be presented to him. Mr Foster said that a medal suitably, inscribed would be more appropriate, and If obtained ivy voluntary subscriptions would be of especial Interest and regard to the recipient. Mr Kaln said It was usual to vote £5 from the funds, and suggested this, less amount supplemented by voluntary contributions. Mr Thorpe moved an amendment that a watch valued at £10 and not a modal be presented to Mr Hodgett. This was seconded by Mr Murland, and the amendment was carried, lt was left Jn tlie hands of Mr Jordan to procure the present. The secretary proposed that steps bo taken to obtain part of the beautiful native reserve for a public recreation and sports ground at Ngatapa, and that n deputation wait on Sir James Carroll on the subject. Mr Thorpe, who knew tho chief owner of the. reserve, offered to interview him, and; the hope was expressed that he might succeed m persuading the most interested owner to buy over the reserve frpm the others and present It tp thp' jjgatapa people.

Mr Wallis proposed that a meeting- be. held next Tuesday evening, April 7th, m .order to arrange, if possible, to procure a suitable site for a public hall at Ngatapa. *-, Tliis was seconded by Mr V>.
