The ordinary inoftin<r of tho. Council wns hold on Alaroh _:t :it the Council Chambers, Waipiro T*ay. Present: Crs K. S. Williams (chairman). A. li. Williams, Kemp, Oates, Hon Id, and Wickstead. Incoming- correspondence was dealt with as follows:— From Mr J. Ilarvoy, stating that having had heavy loss m his contract owing to timber not coming- to hand, he hoped tho Council would recompense him. — Proposed by Cr. A. B. Williams, seconded by Cr. Kemp, and carried, tliat ho bo paid £75. From the secretary of the Pakira Land Company, stating that his company, m conjunction with other companies, will subsidise, the Council to the extent of £000 for the purpose of .widening the 1 racks through Mr Holt's Waikura property into a permanent dray road, and tho amount will, ho paid directly he 's advised that tho work is being commenced.—Proposed by the chairman, and seconded by Cr. Heald, that the secretary of the Pa k lri Land Co. be written to and thanked, and be informed that as soon as the County Engineer can lay off the road and make his estimates he will he advised as to the probable cost and the date on which the work will be commenced. — Carried. From Mr K. Ree;d, asking for instructions re the fencing of the top side of the .Tutuohora road.— Proposed by Cr. Heald, seconded by Cr. A. J3. Williams aud carried, that Mr Reed be asked to get the fencing done and get tlie materials. From the Postmaster-General re removing of poles on the Tokomaru beach road, and that he had arranged the poles to the satisfaction of the Council.— Proposed by the .chairman, seconded by Cr. Oates, and carried, that the Post-master-General be written to and thanked for so promptly dealing with the matter; and also that hts attention be drawn to the congested state of the telephone service between Tokomaru and Te Araroa. and he be asked to have the wire duplicated along this line: also the Chief Postmaster at Gisborne be written tb m the some strain. From Mr Geo. Kirk, chairman of Port Awanui School Committee, drawing the Council's attention to the rpad leading to the public buildings, and asking the Council to givo the matter careful, consideration.—proposed by Cr. Heald, seconded by Cr. A. Ti. Williams, and carried, that the engineer and overseer report on what is necessary to be done. ,The overseer's report was read. Arising therefrom it was proposed by the chairman, seconded liy cr; Heald, and carried, that the action of Cr. A. B. Williams and the overseer m dealing with the tenders (3-14 and 5-14) be confirmed. The Council then went into committee to open and* consider tenders. On resuming, it was resolved that the tender of Mi' C, Burde.tt, £ir>l, for. roadojan's hut at Walau, be accepted, artd that the tender of Mr .J.
