[Per Press Association.] Auckland, Saturday. The first day's racing of the Auckland Racing Club's Spring Meeting commenced at Ellerslie this afternoon. There was a large attendance. Following were the results -. — Welcome Stakes, of 250 soys ; 6 furlongs: Val Rosa 1, Lady Avon 2, Bali birnio 3. Scratched : Paul Seaton. Won by two lengths. Time, lmiu 7 3-sth sees. Dividend, £5 Is. Hurdle Race, of 200 soys ; 1J miles : Dentist 1, Troubadour 2, Shylock 3. Scratched : Straybird, Forty-seven, and Tip. Won by two lengths. Time, 3min 33secs. Dividend, £8 11s. Shorts Handicap : St. Clements 1, Mieß Blnir 2, Moment 3. Scratched : Toroaand Lastitia. Won easily by three lengths. Time, 2min 7 2-sth sees. Div., £4 18s. Cnr Handicap, 300 soys; 1J miles: Record Reigu 1, St. Ursula 1, Coronet 3. : Won by a neck. Time 2min 17secs. Div., ] £5 Us" Pony Handicap : Pipiwhararoa 1, Kitty ! Fly n u2, The Slave 3. Time lmin 3osecs. Div., £Q 8. Flying Handicap, 6 furlongs : Sb. Clements 1, St. Jack 2, Dayutree3. Time, lmin 20secs. Div., £2 2s. In the hurdle race, Dennis Morrigan. rider of the favorite, was thrown and his jaw was broken.
