Thero was fine weather and a large attendance at the opening of tho Victorian Racing Club's spring meeting. The Governors of Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania, and New Zealand were present. The results were : — Maiden Plate : Kenley 1, Nitre 2, Skein 3. Also started: Platinum. Betting: 7 to 3 against Kenley. Won by two lengths. Time, lmin 14£secs. Maribybnong Plate: Finland I, Wigelmar 2, Polyxena 3. All started. Betting : 7 to 2 against Finland. Won by two lengths. Time, lmin, 20secs. HoTiiAti Handicap: Miss Carbine 1, Malcenas 2, Flintlock 3. Betting : 10 to 1 Miss Carbine. Won by half a head. Time, 2min. 37sec. V R.C. Derby : Merriwee 1, Dewey 2, Parthian 3. All the acceptors started. Betting : 7 to 4 against Dewey, 4 to 1 Merriwee. Kalingo was first away, but Promontory soon went to the front and led to the turn, with Parthian last. In the straight Promontory compounded, and the finish was left to the placed horses, Merriwee gaining the verdict by a length anil a quarter. Time, 2min 4lJseo. Melbourne Stakes : Mora 1, Wait-a-bit 2, Gauleon 3. Betting :6to 4on Australian Star, 7to 1 Mora. Won by threequarters of a length. Time, 2min lOJsec. Cobukg Stakes : Security 1, Royal Purple 2, Caledonia 3. Betting : 4to 1 Alemene and Delusive, 11 to 1 Security. Won by a length.
