THE TURKISH SITUATION.
_ ♦ Constantinople, Dec. 23. The Porto has issued a decree granting an amnesty to all Aimeniaos except 100 who were sentenced to death, including two Bishops. Those will receive commutation, and bo interned in fortresses. The Embassies compelled the Sultan to refrain from granting an. amnesty to the murderer of Father Salvatore. Greek rebels in Macedonia attacked a Turkish escort, lulling eight judioial officials and twenty-four soldiers. Their own loss was only four, London, Dec. 22. The Pall Mall Gazette says that the movements of the Turkish troops lately disbanded ure causing great alarm in Syria, where a massacre is feared. M. Nelidoff asked for a partial amnesty to be declared, but the other Embassies are strongly in. favor of making it general. Paius, Dec. 22. Le Temps, wliioh formerly supported the Porte, has suddenly "changed its tone, and now attacks the Sultan, expressing sympathy with the Armenians. Le Figaro publishes a stinging al tack on M. Nelidoff, accusing faitp. of facing to support France., 9
