DAIRY CONFERENCE.
Dunedin, to-day. At the annual meeting of the National Dairy Association, Mr McEwan, the Government expert, said he was satisfied that New Zealand cheeße was equal to almost the finest Canadian. Our best butter was equal to fche best Victorian, and if they could put it on the market in a week, the beist would compare favorably, with Danish, but iuforior stuff was being turned out which told against New Zealand. He thought the keeping of butter and cheese in dock in London for 16 days should be investigated by the Association. Stock Department experience had taught them that quality was what the British consumer wujitod. They must have quality and were prepared to pay for it.
Tho following resolutions were carried : — "That tho Government should continuo to freeze butter for shipment free of cost, but they should only freeze butter of No. 1 quality ;" " that the question of cool chambers in steamers bo left to a committee ;" " that it be a recommendation to tho committee that twelve-sided cheese eases bo used and two cheeses packed in a box, and that oblong butter boxes of uniform size be adopted."
