Mr Eddy's Appointment.

Sydney, June 5.

Reports are in circulation that Mr Eddy was offered a salary of £10,000, with two years' engagement, by the Victorian Govern-^ ment, to set the railways of the colony in order. >

Replying to a question in the Legislative Assembly, the Minister of Railways said he knew nothing of this arrangement. There seems little possibility ot the House agreeing to an increase in Mr Eddy's salary. The House might vote a salary of £4800 if Mr Eddy were appointed sole Commissioner, but Government is unlikely to accept this.
