The United District Charitable Aid Board find that they were wrong in cutting down the amount asked for by the Benevolent Society. Another meeting was held yesterday, at which steps were taken to put the matter right by transmitting to the Colonial Secretary 9, protest at the requisition ag excessive. Mr Buchanan, the Wairarapa member, denied that the majority of applicarts camo from his district, and gave instances to the contrary Upon the motion to pasa the full amounts, several members objected. It was pointed out bhat unless the votes were passed by March 31 there would be no more from the various charitable bodies to go on with. Amendments, however, were carried in favor of letting the matter stand over till the protest was decided, some of the objectors saying that they were prepared to personally guarantee the money required for the month rather than pass the amounts in toto. Agent-General writes respecting complaints as to the quality of butter, that owing to large arrivals, especially of Australian and Now Zealand butter, buyers are more critical, and have condemned butter which in a less full market would have a ready sale. He condemns the presence of large quantities of dairy butter on the market, which does not keep or carry so well as creamery. He states that speculators who bought for export in the English market lost heavily, and were not likely to visit tho colony this season. Mr Perceval says that the long standing controversy as to the proper temperature in which to carry butter is still undecided, bub the concensus of opinion is in favor of a low temperature as preferable, but for best quality the present temperature seems to produce highly satisfactory results. A deputation from the Municipal Association, consisting of Messrs Bell (Mayor of Wellington), Haynes {Mayor of Dunedin), Eden George (Mayor of Christchurch), Kirk (Mayor of Petone), Cr Fish (Dunedin), Cr Harris (Wellington), and Mr Martin, the secretary of the Association, waited on Mr Reeves this morning to ask the Government to introduce the Municipal Corporation Consolidated Bill at the earliest opportunity next session, and then have the measure referred to a Select Committee, the object being to ensure its passing next session. Messrs Bell and Fish assured the Minister that the need of the Bill was very great, and said no further amendments had been made since it was introduced last session. As to any amendments that might be made in it by the Municipal Conference or in the House, Mr Bell said that he would guarantee that a committee would be at hand to watch the progress of the measure, and assist the Government. Mr Reeves said he would take the earliest opportunity of communicating the wish of the deputation to the Premier. That was all he could say to them, as he had nofc consulted tho Premier on the matter, and did not know his views personally. He was strongly in favor of the consolidated m easure. CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. A deputation from the Canterbury Industrial Association interviewed the Hon. Mr Seddon yesterday, and asked him to support their application made to the Premier for granting aid to the proposed exhibition in Christchurch. Mr Seddon replied that he believed the Auckland people were proposing to hold a similar exhibition and considered it their turn. The deputation pointed out that Christchurch never before asked Government for aid, but had conducted exhibitions which had been selfsupporting, hence they were entitled to assistance. AUCKLAND, To-day. At the Mount Eden rifle range yesterday, Lady Hopetoun, who was shooting with the ottier Vice-Regal visitors, scored seven bulls e3 - es at 100 yds.
