Turanganui Football Club.
ANNUAL MEETING,
Last evening the annual general meeting of the Turaugamii Football Club was held in t lie Masonic Hotel, when, despite the inclemency of the weather, about twenty-five members put in an appearance. Great interest was taken in the proceedings, and judging by the enthusiasm shown there i 8 every likelihood of the Club again making a bold bid to retain the proud position which they now hold. Mr J. Haughey was voted to t lie chair. Owing to the Secretary (Mr Matthews) being unable to attend, Mr Eaton read the report and balance-sheet, as follows : —
" The season was started with a credit balance of £3 ISs, and after receiving subscriptions to the amount of £7, the cash available for expenditure was £10 18s. Out of this amount £3 18s was spent in the management of the Club's affairs, leaving a credit balance of £2 to start with this season, which your Committee consider a very favorable state of finance. We would recommend that the rule, re ' not allowing members to play until their subscriptions are paid,' be strictly enforced, as great difficulty is experienced in getting members to pay when once the season is fairly started. Aa far as the game itself is concerned, the season passed off very successfully indeed. The Club sent a team to Napier to play the Pirates, who beat the local team by only two points, after a very evenly-contested game. The Club also managed to carry off the Seuiov Cup, winning the caps presented by the P.B.R. Union. All the matches were ■well contested, especially those against the Gisborne Club. The Club also sent a team to play a friendly match with the Waimata, and although the Waimata boj's were beaten they treated our team right royally. Youv Committee would therefore suggest that the Waimata Club be asked to come down to play a return match— say on the opening day. Thanks is due to Mr E. Law for the presentation of a handsome banner to the Club. We consider that by electing good officers this year the Club will be the premier one of Cook County, and by studying the rules, especially the new ones just come into force, a real good season may be looked forward to. — For the Committee, R. D. B. Robixso>v'
The above having been confirmed, the election of new members took place, when Messrs D. Barry, F. Weston, A. Zachariah, J. Maynard, R. Caul toil, M. Carr, Windus, A. Martin, C. Woodward, J. Nutting, and H. DeCosta were duly elected active members of the Club.
The election of officers was then proceeded with, and the following were appointed for the ensuing year : — President : Mr E. Law. Vice-Presidents : Messrs J. A. Harding, U. Hepburn, and W. Fraser. Captain : Mr F. Loomb. Deputy-Captain : Mr H. Burns. Secretary and Treasurer : Mr J. Eaton. Auditor : Mr J. Haughey. Selection and Managing Committee : Messrs R. Robinson, H. Maude, and E. Law. General Committee : Messrs R. Hepburn, J. McDonnell, W. Nesbit, H. Burns, and E. Forest.
Acting on the suggestion in the report, it was decided that the Waimata Club bo invited to come down and play a friendly game on the loth of April.
Before the conclusion of the meeting, Mr J. McDonnell, on behalf of the members of the Club, in a few well-chosen remarks thanked Mr Law for the handsome banner which ho had presented to them, and also alluded to the great interest taken by that gentlemen in the welfare of the Club. He then proposed the health of Mr Law, which was drunk with musical honors.
Regret was expressed that the Club were to lose the services of Messrs R. Robinson, E. Matthews, and E. Forest on the football field this season, owing to accidents which they havo received during the recess, and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded them. The meeting then terminated.
