Hawke's Bay Education Board.

* Napier, today. — The Education Board met yesterday, when there were present — Messrs Ormond (Chairman), Russell, Sutton, Harding, Tanner, and Swan. Correspondence was read from Gisborne recommending Mr Bull to the headmastership. — Approved. Also asking that C. Thomson's scholarship be extended. — Declined. From same, asking could Mr Bull rent the Board's house as he was occupying another. — Acceded to, subject to the approval of the Committee. From same, applying whether Mr Farani could lie employed until the second master was appointed. —Approved. Also asking for prizes for the High School. — No funds. From Patutahi, applying for a master's residence. — Deferred. From Te Arai, re F. Mcßca's scholarship. He had fallen sick whilst studying for the scholarship. — Nothing could be done. From same, recommending Miss King be paid for sewing. — Referred to regulations. Also as to additions. — To be done. From Tiniroto, asking that the ground be fenced. — Agreed to. Also reporting an average of 24, and six more pupils were coming. — Received. From Waerenga-a-hika, recommending that the master receive three months' notice ; also forwarding the masters' defence. — Referred to the Inspector. From the Inspector, forwarding results of the Gisborne District High School examinaEight pupils were examined. Much of the work was of fair average merit, but the results in arithmetic were disappointing in style and arrangement. Generally the paper work sent in wus not good, and more attention should be given to this aspect of school training. Mackivll's tender for Waerenga-a-hika school, £166 4s, Tiniroto (Arundel) £239, and Te Arai(Skeet) £109, were all accepted.
