Home Rule Delegates.

THE FINANCIAL RESULT

The following in reference to the Irish delegates appears as a leading article in the Sydney Morning Herald : The members of the Irish delegation left our shores yesterday. The campaign of solicitations for subscriptions for the Irish cause began in Australia in April last, and so covers a period of six months. The sum obtained already is L2G,270, the L 270 having come from unsympathetic Smith Australia. It is expected that with New Zealand, which is to be worked by Sir T. Esmonde and Mr Deasy, the total amount will be L 30,000, which represents about L 5,000 a month, or L 1,250, 250 a week, or something over L2OB a day for the six working days in the week, or an average of L6'9 and odd shillings aday for each delegate. This shows that the money got from Australia has not been secured without hard work, and from that standpoint the Irish delegates have earned all they take with them. The}- were successful in New South Wales, where they were given LIO,OOO, and Victoria only falls LSOO behind this sum in her alms. Queensland, however, must bear the palm for sympathy, for she, with one-third of the population of New South Wales and Victoria, gave Lu'ooo to ' the cause.' At that rate, New South Wales and Victoria should have given LIB,OOO each. The delegates seem well satisfied with their visit, and profess to carry away with them good opinions of the Australian peeple and of the press of the country."
