At the Weslcyan district meeting a discussion took place on a recommendation in favor of a separate conference for New Zealand. The voting was— in favor 18, against 9, neutral 2. Mr Donnelly, editor of the Cliristchurch Telegraph, was presented witli a black marble time piece in recognition of his valuable services rendered in exposing Clampett, alias Sullivan. The present was subscribed for in sixpences only. Very complimentary remarks were passed on the determined way in which Mr Donnelly ferretted out the information. MASTERTON, To-day. Mr Deasy addressed a meeting at the Theatre Royal last night. The attendance was fair. A purse of L7O was presented and an address in favor of Home Rule. The Mayor presided. WELLINGTON. To-day. The writ fur the East Coast was issued yesterday. Tt is made returnable for December 23. Nothing at present, has been decided re the small pox passenger by the Jubilee. The harbormaster simply received an intimation similar to that mentioned in the Sydney cable. Te Kerei, a Maori prophet of the Rangitikei district, who has been a steady opponent of all Governments up to the present, yesterday waited on the Native Minister and informod him he intended to withdraw his opposition, and do his best to induce the natives to follow his example. Te Kerei's religion is a, peculiar one, and takes the form of curing women of barrenness. During the recent visit to his settlement Mr Mitch elson found a collection of some 100 women fantastically adorned waiting to go through mystic rites. The Native Minister was invited to stay and witness the ceremony, but thought it prudent to retire.
