BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Council met last night. Present : Mayor (chairman), Whinray, Creaawell, Dunlop, Townley, Lewis, Wilson, Graham, Tucker. FIRE BRIGADE. Permission was granted to the Fire Brigade to take the hose reel to the demonstration at Dunedin. — In reply to some questions Cr Townley said the old reel bad been improved and would be quite adequate in case of fire. No hose waa to be taken. Some former brigade men would serve in case of tire, and everything would bo left in readiness for emergencies. — A. Y. Ross, junior, was granted a month's leave of absence to attend the demonstraction at Dunedin. ROAD OVERSEER'S REPORT. During the last fortnight four chains of gravel has been put on Childer's roadway, but not stacked. Fourteen chains of footpath still remains to be shingled. I gave the contractor notice to-day that the formation should be completed before any more gravel was put on the roadway. The approaches to tho bridge have been repaired, as ordered by the Council. About 20 chains of footpaths in Palmerston Road have been | shingled, being of fair quality. The crossings have also been put in good order at a cost of Ll3 10s. The gravelling of the roadway being completed and taken over by your Council a progress payment is due to the contractor. The Grey street contract is being pushed on, and will be finished in another week. The formation will be completed to-morrow night. About 450 yards of gravel have been delivered on the roadway and spread, also 14 chairs of footpath have been shingled. A progress payment of L6O is due to the contractor.
