NUISANCE INSPECTOR'S REPORT.

" Dogs — Since the first of the month there have been 143 dog 3 registered, and during that time 28 have been destroyed. With respect to those which have been destroyed, no one owned them, they were a nuisance to everyone walking or riding through the streets of the Borough, and in nine cases out of ten they have been brought into the borough by country settlers and lost here. Each of these dogs have cost your Council 2s for burial. I would respectfully suggest to your Council that the County Council be asked to pay this amount for tins reason : I could have sold at the least £10 worth of collars to country settlers. Mauy who come into the town know me and ask for a collar. I have always referred them to the County office. With respect to dogs that are registered in town I may say I know each one of them. Dogs that aro registered in the country, if brought into town, must have their collars on. However valuable the dog may be to its owner I only recognise the collar. Sanitary — In this matter I can assure your Council that everything is working well." As to tha County Council paying for tho burial of stray county dogs, it was thought that the Council would repudiate ownership, and no action was taken. ACCOUNTS : HEPAIKS, ETC. Accounts totalling £107 83 were passed for payment, The attention of tho Road-overseer was drawn to a break in theTaruheru bridge ; also to the tree 3 overhanging the footpaths ; also to a dangerous hole near Common Shelton's building.
