It is reported here that Douglas McLean, son of the late Sir Donald McLean, will be a candidate for the representation of Napier at the next general election. He is said to be on the way out from England.

It is stated here that Sir Julius Yogel intends shortly to return to the Colony and enter into political life again. Some Sharp correspondence is said to have passed between him and the Government, and it is reported that Ministers returned him some of his letters on the ground of containing unwarrantable statements.

Alexander Brogden, who is now in Wellington, intends testing the practicability of establishing the manufacture of cement in New Zealand. He has obtained from Taranaki a nnmber of blocks of limestone, some clay, and other materials apparently suitable for cement manufacture, which he purposes sending Home in order to have the materials made into cement with the view of testing the matter thoroughly.
