[from our own cokr.es pond ent.] AUCKLAND. This Day. A man, named William Mellon, was found dead yesterday in a closet of the Provincial Boarding-house, Shortland-street. He was 66 years of age, and formerly in the Government Survey Department, and had served in the Royal Engineers. John William Smith was yesterday tried for a third time for an alleged attempt to shoot Edwin Washer, of Whangarei, and acquitted. The judge <*v named up strongly against him.
The Orangemen paraded and marched through the streets yesterday, with banners, etc. Six lodges took part in the proceedings.
