AUCKLAND.
This Day. A young man named John Irvine, who has been victimising tradesmen, by representing himself as son of Sir John Irvine, of Kiji, has received eight months' imprisonment. At a m&eting of the Education Board on Friday, it was stated that the overdraft and liabilities for contracts, etc. , amounted to over £20.000. The buildings required were forty schoolhouses and sixty teachers' residences, costing £38,000. It was ordered that the attention of the Government be called to the matter. A Catholic organ named the New Zealand Freeman's Journal was issued on Saturday.
