OUR ORMOND LETTER.

(from our own correspondent. )

The inhabitants of our little district once more are gladdened with the sight of grass, m place of sunburnt land. The roads are m excellent order ; business very fair for this time of the year, independent of the " Glasgow Bank failure." A large quantity of grass seed is being carted inland ; this, m itself, shows a sign of prosperity. By the bye, talking about roads, I read a letter m your issne of the 12th insfc., signed " Veritas," m reference to the state of the roads, with a particular " down" on the officers and chairman of the Cook County Council. Now, as a singular individual, I won't use the plural pronoun of " We." Ido believe " Veritas" has a certain amount

of cause to blame the Cook County Council m this wise : That gentlemen who aspire to the honour of Councillor should study the interests of his constituents by attending every meeting. Re the Chairman included m Mr. "Veritas's " remarks, I have always seen Mr. Johnson's name recorded as present, as also that of Mr. J. Villers. The last meeting that should have been held, when tenders and other matters of importance should have beeu considered, found only the Chairman, Councillor Villers, the Clerk, and Engineer present, andjn consequence was adjourned. This, I submit, is not the correct thing. My humble opinion is this, that gentlemen who aspire to the honour of Councillor, should pay attention to the duties they undertake.

I think that " Veritas " is wrong m bringing the Chairman's name forward at all, as he is not a paid servant, consequently not to be at every one's beck and call. Be the Engineer, if " Veritas" knows and can prove that he pays more attention to his private affairs than his duty, would it not be better to write a complaint to the Council m reference to the same, and allow them to deal with it? I trust that neither "Veritas" or myself will be ruined by either the Cook County or Borough Councils.
