MR. J. B. POYNTER AND THE STANDARD.
To the Editor of the Evekino Hekald.
Sir, — For cool, consummate impudence, I think that which does duty for a leading article m to-day's Standard is facile princeps.
Mr. Poynter is an old settler, much older than the Editor of the Standard, and I think he lent a helping hand at starting that paper. He is a man well known for probity, integrity, and thorough respectability ; m fact his reputation is as much to his credit as that of the Editor of the Standard is to his discredit.
Let me inform the Editor of that paper that just as many people " believe m Mr. Poynter " possessing many known virtues, as know the absence of them m him (the Editor). As one of Mr. Povnter's oldest friends, I sincerely regret his, for one instant, thinking it worth his while to notice, much less reply to, anything which the Editor of the Standard could write. The despicable way m which the latter behaved when placarded by the late G. E. Head is quite sufficient to put him outside the pale of any man's respect which is worth having. I am, &c. , Anti-Humbug.
[To the Editor of the Evening Herald.]
Sir, — How about a water supply ? I I am, &c, Abstainer.
[Ah ! how about it ?— Editok.]
