f REUTER—COPYRIGHT. J (Received Nov. 2d, 1.10 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Nov. 24. The trial of the electric light at Spencer street Railway Station took place last night. A sixteen arc and forty incandescent lamps were in position, and the trial was completely successful. Subsequently Sir Julius Vogel entertained a large number of guests at sapper. The room was brilliantly lighted with incandescent lamps. SYDNEY, Nov. 24. At the recent special general meeting of members of the Australian Mutual Provident Society, amendments of the by-laws providing for changes in the mode of election of Directors and distribution of profits, as proposed by the Board, were agreed to. After the distribution of next year, the surplus profits of the society will be divided annually instead of quinquinally as heretofore.
