The trial of another of the prisoners concerned in the murder of the Joyce family in August last, was concluded today, a verdict of guilty being returned by the jury. Sentence of death was passed upon the prisoner. Reports are current here to-day that the cargo of frozen mutton per steamship Marsala, which left Dunedin on the 22nd September last, was jettisoned near Java, owing to the refrigerating machinery having broken down. Nov. 18. Sir Stafford Northcote started to-day on a health cruise to the south of Europe, and expects to be absent from England for two months. Her Majesty the Queen reviewed all the troops which have returned from Egypt at the Horse Guards to-day. The various regiments afterwards marched through Picadilly and Whitehall, receiving an ovation from an immense concourse of people assembled along the route. (Received Nov. 20. 12.55 a.m.) Nov. 20. The Orient steamship Cuzco, which left Melbourne on the 27th September, arrived at Plymouth on Saturday last. Obituary —The Right Hon. Earl Harrowby, K. G., aged 85. (Received Nov. 21, 11 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 20. In the House of Commons to-day Sir Charles Dilke, Under Secretary for Foreign Affairs, in reply to questions stated that diplomatic communications are now passing between the British and French Governments regarding De Brazzar’s treaty under which France acquires certain territory in Madagascar. News has been received here that both Chambers of Bolivian Republic have voted truce with Chili. Mr G. 0. Trevelyan, Chief Secretary for Ireland, stated in reply to questions, that Government are of opinion that unions are quite inadequate to cope with the distress now prevailing in Ireland. Mr B. J. Kennard, conservative, was to-day elected member for the House of Commons for Salisbury, defeating Mr W. H. Grenfell, the former liberal member, who having accepted the position of groom of the Chamber in the Queen’s household, was obliged to seek reelection. AUSTRALIAN. [ REUTER' —COPYRIGHT. J (Received Nov. 20, 12.55 a.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 20. It has transpired that His Excellency the Governor has granted Sir He»ry Parkes an unconditional dissolution of Parliament.
(Received Nov. 21, 10 p m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 21. The inquest on the bodies recovered from the Austral was concluded to-day. The verdict of the jury stated that the captain, mate, chief engineer, and carpenter had committed grave error of judgment in failing to take proper precautions for the safety of the vessel.
