SECOND EDITION. PATEA HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

The Spring Show of the above Society was opened to-day in the Harmonic Hall, which presents a very pleasing spectacle. The exhibits as a whole were very fine, and reflect great credit upon the growers and the district. The Committee have arranged the exhibits to the best advantage and the numerous visitors this afternoon found plenty to interest and admire. We have not time to do justice to the exhibits in detail, but we may mention one or two of the most striking features in the show. In the class for pot plants the geraniums were particularly fine, two tricolor plants exhibited by Mr Orchard attracting considerable notice. The fuchsias were good specimens, as were also the begonias and petunias. The red musk shown by Mrs E. Derrett was a finelygrown plant. The collection of ferns by Mrs Wray took first prize, but we hope soon to see considerable improvement in this class. Some of the cut flowers were very some, notably the roses, which excited the keenest competition. The bouquets were tastefully arranged with due attention to color, while the bridal bouquets, of course, had the special admiration of the fair sex. Some new features in the shape of button hole bouquets, and floral wreaths have been introduced and have brought out several competitors who have no reason to be their work. As might be expected at this season of the year, the exhibits in fruit was not Wery large, but some nice strawberries and gooseberries were shown. The vegetable class is well represented there being some really fine exhibits There are some attractive exhibits under the extra class, and Mr Laird, of Wanganui, has a fine case of ent roses which were greatly admired. We would strongly advise a visit to the show this evening when, as an additional attraction, a capital musical programme will be submitted: The following is the PRIZE LIST. Pot Plants.
