THE VOLUNTEERS .

The usual quarterly competition for the McGuire Cup came off on the Patea Range, on Monday last the 20th inst., at 2 p.m. The weather proved very favorable for shooting. Powell 36 Corporal Harris ... 35 Ist Class. Corporal Harris ... 41 Corp. Carey ... 31 The competition for Messrs Christie and Haywood’s medal will take place next Saturday morning. The usual monthly Government Inspection was held last night. The total muster was about 46, which was not so good as could be desired. The Volunteers, preceded by the Band, marched up and down the town, after which Captain Neill put the Company through the skirmishing and battalion drill, in front of the Barracks, for about an hour.
