CONSCRIPTION OPPOSED
CHRISTCHURCH LABOUR MEETING. Electric Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 16. A motion opposing the introduction of conscription for military service was carried at the last meeting of the North Canterbury Labour Representation Committee. Division in the ranks of the political Labour organisations on this question was indicated by the closeness of the voting. Though the meeting was largely attended, the motion was carried by a majority of only six votes.
A review of their attitude on the conscription issue was not possible by many of the branches by tne time the meeting of the Labour Representation Committee was held, and another full-dress debate is promised for the next meeting on Thursday night. The subject has been reopened by notice of motion. “That the resolution opposing conscription be rescinded.'”
