RUGBY CONTROL.

BUSH UNION MEETS. LAST NIGHT'S BUSINESS. A meeting of the Management Committee ol the Bush Sub-1 nicsti was held last night in the ‘‘Herald’’ Office, there being present Messrs R. J. Smith, W. A. Bond, J \\ ateis, V. Brown, \Y. Aitkeii, M. Reiclienbach. W. Henderson, Humphrey, P. Monaghan and the secretary (Mr G. L. Chatwin). Putara school asked for a donation of a football—agreed to and left in the hands ot Air Henderson for delivery. The Horow henna Rugby Union, wicte accepting July 1 for the date pf the Beblrngton Shield match and asked for arrangements to lie- made for their lunch on that date.— Agreed to. The Bush Hockey Association asked for Rugby matches to l>e cancelled on Wednesday, July 8 in view of the visit of the Fijian ladies’ hockey team.—lt was agreed to comply with the request of the Hockey Association.

Dannevirke S-üb-Union reminded the Union that a challenge had been [lodged for the Bobbington Shield, and as yet they had not received any word of its acceptance. The secretary reported that he had not received the challenge from the Danuevirke Union, but the late secretary had informed him that such had been received and inadvertently overlooked.

Members agreed that Danuevirke were entitled to the first match since their challenge had been already put in, but as it had not been .received officially and arrangements were already finalised, the Horowhenua game would have to come first.

It was decided to offer Danuevirke July 15 for the Bebbington Shield at Pahiatua, and after further discussion it was agreed to play the Wairarapa, match at Eketahun on Julv 22. It ws mentioned that Wairarapa wished to come to Pahiatua for tin* return game but members pointed out that Eketahun a was much nearer Masterton than Pahiatua, and Dannevirke patrons would be better suited by the shield match being played at Pahiatua.

It was also pointed out that accommodation was a. difficult matter at Eketahiuia, and a member mentioned that A\ airarapa had taken the first match to a dry area and said there could lie no harm in bringing them to Eketahuna. (Laughter.)

The secretary’s action, in instituting schemes for raising funds to defray the medical expenses of D. O’Donnell (who recently broke his leg m a third grade match) was ap - proved. Thi' secretary reported that the caretaker had suggested hat ing the grandstand cleaned up, and it was resolved to ask the A. and P Association to have same attended to in view < f the* fact that they had the use of the ground for next to nothing. Jt was reported that the gate at the double match on Saturday week was to. and this was chiefly due to the fact that there was a curtain raiser between Xgaturi and liukanui juniors. It was explained that the gatekeeper’s car had broken down prior to this match, and the ugh relief gatekeepers could not take up duties at once, the onlookers who had not been asked for money, had come ioiw.id when the hat was taken round.

SEVEX-A SIDE. It was reported that the C arnival Park ground was unsuitable for play in the* seven-a-side on June 23. and that the Recreation Committee ol tlie Borough Council would institute certain tilling up work on the grounds which wculd be available at the usual charge of 10 per cent, on the takings. J lie secretary was deputed to arrange tin* draw lor the Junior and Senior seven-a-side with Air S. K Sidi.li 11s and Air \\ . Henderson undertook to work the third grade and midget games. -Ihe third grume anil junior matches will start at 9.30 a.ni. ami the seniors will be worked in as early as possible. It was decided to si-cure the cups and exhibited same in the window of the secretary's shop. The Union resolved to procure appropriate football mementoes to be given in lieu of miniature cups.
