“Utility is the truest test of excellence/’ Card players a.re advised that the Mangamutu school euchre party will be held as usual on Friday this week. A local lesident has donated a sheep for competition, Jia.lt of which is to go to tlie winning lady and half to the winning gentleman player. Dancers are given a final reminder of the Paramount Ball which takes place in. the Mangamutu Hall tonight. The attraction ol the evening will undoubtedly prove to be special lighting, effects put in at the directi on of Mr I>. O'Brien, the dance secretary. Miss Jean Scott’s pupils will give a. tap dance ballet- and music for the dancing will be provided by Ged soil’s Aces.

Over the week-end a u-turn match between the Manga tain oka- Brewery and the Danuevirke Hotel Employees took place, ending with the score six all, says the Evening News. A very large attendance witnessed the game. The Dannevirke team won the toss, and from then on the game was fast with plenty of good passing rushes and some good forward movements. The game was marred by C. O’GormaiL and D. Guinane being ordered oft after being warned several times lor mixing it. Tries for the local side were scored by J. Merry lees and G. Grant and for the challengers K. Sharplin and Smith. The game was capably controlled by J. Fulton. Messrs Noedl and Bailey, Opticians of Palmerston North, would welcome the opportunity of making, any adjustments to glasses worn by their clients of Pahiatua. and surrounding districts who may be visiting Palmerston North during Show Week Consulting rooms next to Bank N.Z.
