BORROW A BARROW.

FOR THURSDAY’S BIG RACE. The announcement that a genuine wheelbarrow rac* is to be staged m Paliiatua during the dinner-hour on Thursday has been eagerly welcomed by a large number of intending competitors. This will he a real test of endurance and ability, with standard garden wheelbarrows. It will be in the form of a relay race, passenger and pusher both being chaug«*d at the half-way mark the King'- Theatre.

The course will be round the five* main garden squares, missing one square at each end. A big field is already assured and it will be dispatched by Starter E. H. Lett from Hannah's Corner. The contestants will scurry southwards to come back up the western side of the town rounding the square at the “Herald” Office and finishing at Hannah’s Corner again.

The organisers, the Sports Commit tee of the Progressive Association, are taking particular care that every entrant will be given a good run for the attractive prizes which are offering. Stalwarts from the country districts plan to scoop the pool bur there are some dark horses in solid training in town and a desperate race is predicted Crowds will line the streets at 12.30 on Thursday and ir will Ih* memorable day for Pahiatua

Equally keen iutciest is being takin in the special race for ladies, the distance being round one square only.
