COONOOR PIONEER.
LATE MR. MICHAEL CONWAY. Coonoor lost one of its early pioneer settlers on Sunday morning when thb death occurred, at the Dannevirke Hospital, of Mr Michael C onway, at the age of 86 years. For 37 years the deceased had resided on his farm at Coonoor but a month ago he and Airs Conway retired to live in Dannevirke. Last Saturday he was taken suddenly ill and entered the hospital, only to succumb on the following morning. The late Mr Conway was born in C lonmel], County Tipperary, Ireland, and came out to New Zealand in a sailing ship rn 1879. He landed at Auckland and soon afterwards went to Hastings and thence to Dannevirke. After four years in the latter town he took up a hush section which he farmed at Coonoor and there he had remained ever since. He was married at Hastings in 1895 at the Sacred Heart Chu'rch, to Miss Mary Flemming, also of Clonmel], Ireland, who followed him to New Zealand. Ho is survived by a widow, four sons and two daughters. They are Messrs J. D. Conway (Australia), D. M. (Pahiatua), D. T. (Matamau) and N. J. (Coonoor Mrs F. O. Davis (Auckland) and Mrs T. ,H. Roil (Coonoor). There are eleven grand-children. The deceased also lias one sister living at Hastings, Mrs Wallace.
The funeral took place at Dannevirke fin Tuesday and was largely attended. The’ service at the church and at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. Father Gu ini'- a lie (Dannevirke), assisted by the Rev. Father M. Cash man (Pahiatua). Several lovely wreaths were laid at the grave The ha 11-pea r-r-M-s were Messrs D. M., D. T. and N. J. Conwr.v, T. H. R.0,i1, F. O. Davis and J. Walsh.
