UNSATISFACTORY POSITION.
MORTGAGORS' RELIEF COMMISSION
COMPLAINTS BY LAW SOCIETY
Electric Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, Last Night. A position regarded by the legal profession as most unsatisfactory has arisen following the resignation on May 1 ott two. members of the Wellington District Mortgagors’ Relief Commission. Complaints were made by a number of legal practitioners to the Wellington District Law Society on Tuesday, and the society wrote to the Under-Secretary of the Justice Department pointing out the hearing of applications had fallen many months, into airears and that an injustice was being done to applicants. The Under-Secretary, replying. promised immediate consideration.
It is now revealed that the reason for the resignations of Mr Hugh Mclntyre (chairman) and Mr Albert McDonald is that these members were dissatisfied with the appointment of a uew*secretarv of the conirmission by the Government without consulting the commission. It is also learned that the commission resigned also in October, 1933. hut was persuaded by the Government to continue.
