OBITUARY.

MRS. M. A. PRIEST

The late, Airs Mary Ann Priest, of Vano-anui and formerly of Wainia No-aturi, was the daughter of the’ late Air AV. McConnell, ot Banchory, Aberdeen, and was born m 1861 She went to Canada in 1873 settling at New Brunswick, where she was married in 1879 to the late Air J. T. Priest. She came to New- Zealand in the lonic m 1883, it being that vessel s maiden voyage, the deceased landing at Napier The late Air and Airs Priest settled at Woodville, where they resided for several years. They removed to the Ngaturi district, which was then mostly all virgin bush where they lived for 25 years. Air Priest died about 20 years ago, and his widow retired to Wanganui in 1924. Up till the last few months she had enjoyed good health. Whilst a resident of Ngaturi she took an interest m all affairs pertaining to the district ancl was an active worker for the patriotic cause during the period ot the Great War. She was very much interested in the work of St. Paul s Presbvterian Church, lhe deceased lady was greatly esteemed by her numerous old friends. She is survived by four sons and five daughters, these comprising Alessrs J ohn C. Priest (Pirinoa, Wairarapa) Martin A. (Ngaturi), Samuel D. (le Kuiti). Peter Melville (Ngaturi), and Alesdames J. Dick (Ngaturi), F T Williamson (Gordonton, Waikato), J. E. Alacdoiiald (Alangamntu), R,. Hudson (Westmere, Wanganui) and J. Jamieson (Te mutn). The eldest son, George William, was killed whilst on active service in France. There are also 22 grandchildren. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon, the interment being at Mangatainoka. The service at the church and the oraveside was conducted by Rev. K. D Warren. Prior to the casket leaving Wanganui, a brief service was held at the late residence of deceased Carlton Avenue, by Rev. JPatterson. There were many floral tributes from relatives and old friends.
