THE PRESIDENT’S TROPHY

A keen contest for the President’s tiophy in the Pairs Competition took place on. the Pahiatua green on Tuesday between Scott’s and Ransom’s leans It was a close game all through, and Scott won on the last head by the narrow margin of one Starting off with a nett handicap of 6 Scott scored four on tin; second and third heads, against Ransom's single on the first, the scores being :0 —1 Ransom, then scoied 8 on the r.ext six heads, bringing hnn within n point of his opponent on the n : nth head On the fifteenth head Ransom was seven up. Scott scored four on the sixteenth head and Ransom three on the seventeenth, the board showing Ransom 22, Scott 16. Ransom failed to improve bis score, Scott scoring 3,2 and 1 on the next tliree heads, the score being 22 all on the twentieth head. On tlie last heart Scott was lying 3 when tlie skips went down. Scott drew another, and with his third bowl Ransom drew second shot. Scott put in a good block and Ransom just failed to run out the shot- with his last bowl, leaving Scott the winner by one. The scores were; Britland and Scott (si (nett handicap 6) 23; Thomson and Ransom (s) 22. • Two further matches in this competition were got off yesterday afternoon. when Husband’s team defeated ALcßratney’s pair, and Dr. Paterson proved ntore than a match for W. Britland. The scores were as follows : Crewe and Husband (s) (net handicp 7) 26; v Hewat and McBratney (s) 18. Boagey and Paterson (s) 20; v. Aloore and W. Britland (s). (net handicap 21 17.
