Mr Hunter's replace advertisement will appear next issue. Mr Crewe advertises for a steady youth as generally useful. The gymnasium will be open this evening. A lost black and tan sheep dog is advertised as found. Mrs Hamilton wants a good general servant. Messrs Abraham and Williams advertise the list of stock for their next Palmerston sale. A special meeting of the Knights of Labor is called lor next Thursday evening. Mr Matthew Henry makes some important additions to his Pahiatua sale list. We refer public attention to the list for sale at the mart to-morrow afternoon. All person having claims against the estate of the late Percy Simpson are requested elsewhere to send their accounts in to Mr H. Burnett, solicitor, Woodville. Attention is drawn to C. Sandford and Co.’s startling advertisement, which will come j a welcome boon to buyers of drapery and clothing these hard times. Messrs Mowlem and Co. have received an intimation that an Australian firm has consigned a large assortment of Australian furs, to be offered for sale by auction in Pahiatua at an early date. Mr J. B. Knight, Pahiatua, has been appointed local agent for Mr Matthew Henry, auctioneer. Those wishing to enter stock for sale at Mr Henry’s yards are requested to send particulars to Mr Knight. The criiketers and pnblic hall committee at Bu ilance have amalgamated to hold a concert in the hall on Wednesday July 7ih. It is intended to provide a record programme. A number of Pahiatua’s best talents have promised to assist. The Mayor has convened a meeting for Monday evening next in the Town Hall to consider the appointment of a suitable man as nightwatchman for the borough. All business men and those interested in this important matter are requested to attend the meeting, which begins at 7.30. We remind all those who have tickets in the art union for Miss Avery's handpainted screen that the drawing will take place to morrow, probably in the Olympic Theatre. Those who have not yet obtained tickets should do so at once. The next meet of the hounds at Pahiatua will probably take place on Wednesday, 7th July. A meeting of the members will be held on Tuesday next, 29th inst., in the Commercial hotel, at 7.30 p.m. Business—To fix dates for future meets and to elect officers. Members and intending members are requested to be present. The Literary and Debating Society intend on Monday eveuing, July sth, to offer four handsome prizes, viz., two to children over 12 and two to children under 12 years of age (boy and girl in each case). Children who have won prizes at similar competitir.is will not be permitted to compete. If the society were to hold more of such competitions it would be doing good work, and we hope there will be a large number of competitors.

Major Birkenshaw, the newly-ap-pointed divisional officer for the central division of the Salvation Army, is to give a social address on Tuesday night m the Army barracks, Pahiatua, on “ Practical Christianity of the 19th century and the brotherhood of man.” The Major has had twenty years’ experience in Army work in various parts of the world, and should give an interesting account of mankind and the doings of the Army amohgst the undertone of society.

Mr Hebert Mayne, the genial proprietor of the Post Office store Mangatainoka, publishes a nett cash replace advertisement in another column, which should gladden the hearts of the public of this district. It is evident that Mr Mayne is a firm believer in the principle of small profits and quick returns and the public will reap the benefit. *

Mr C. Benzie’s (Trocadero) replace advertisement was handed in too late for to-day’s issue and will appear on Monday. The main feature of the advertisement is the intimation to the public that Mr Benzie can supply thirsty souls with a drink of the famous

“ Bovril,” which may be had at any hour. Those who once get a taste of of the world-famed “ Bovril ” discard for ever the various slushes that for centuries have done duty as refreshments.
