Tataekara v. Pahiatua.

Teams representing the above Club* met last Saturday in a match on the new ground, which resulted in a win for Pahiatua after a hard fought game by 8 points (1 try and 1 goal) to 3 points (1 try). In the first spell Tutaekara defended the Western goal, and therefore had the mnefit of the wind. Nearing half-time lvoss got the ball and made a nice dodgy run over Red’s goal-line, and plaeed a try to his Club's credit; no other score was recorded in the first spell. Shortly after resuming the second «p*ll Vile (Pahiatua) made a good run and croaw-i the opponent's line by the corner flag. the kick at a goal being a failure. After some give and take play Vile again succeeded in obtaining another try which was converted bv Wood just before the call of time. The Tutaekara men played a goed game, but showed want of form towards the close of the second spell; however, with this obstacle overcome, they should prove one of the hardest teams in the Bush to subdue in the champion contests. The Pahiatua team did not altogether play up to my expectations ; probably the reason was on account of the forwards being overpowered by their opponents were unable to hold the scrums and let the ball out to their backs, who, for that reason, were not seen to advantage on Saturday. Vile deserves credit for his performance, his second try being the result of fast following up. The game was fought out in a friendly spirit, and the Tutaekara boys were entertained at t ia at the Commercial hotel prior to their departure for home. * A' * *
