Concert at Ngaturi.

On Friday evening a variety entertainment and dance in aid of the funds of the Ngaturi school was held in the schoolroom ( Mr Milne's woolshed). There was a large attendance, a gi eat many of those present having goneout from Pahiatua. fbe building was tastefully decorate 1 with tiowers and evergreens, and looked really well. Mr J. Milne occupied the chair, and in opening the proceedings made a few appropriate remarks, concluding bv expressing a hope that when they next met lor a similar purpose it would be in a new and larger schoolroom. Mr Cooper, the schoolmaster, opened the programme with a well played pianoforte so.o. Tnen came the following numbers, ail of which were received with evident marks of favor : Trio, “ Ye shepherds tell me," Messrs W. and R. Broughton and Brown ; song *• Tne Vacant Chair," Mr F. Perry iencored •; song. ** Robin Adair," Mr Turnbull (eu coredj; duet, Messrs Broughton and Morley ; song, “ Bonnie Prince lharlie." Miss A. Dick (encored) ; song, “ Highland Lad." Mr A. Blair nmcoredi . song, comic, ** 1 had but Eighteen Pence." Mr D&sn (encorcl); glee, Messrs Broughton Bros., and Brown ; carol, members of the Pahiatua Presbyterian choir (encored) ; song. ** The Old Rustic Bridge," Mr F. Perry ; song. “ The Gipsy’s Warning,” Miss Winter (encored); recitation. “The Natural Bridge of Virginia. Mr Sutcliffe ; duct, “ Ye Banks and Braes." Messrs Blair and Turnbull; song, “The Tar’s Farewell,” Mr Broughton ; recitation, *• Little Yakoob Strauss. Mr J. Milne ;encored) ; song. “ Every Bullet has its Billet." Mr Brown (encored); comic song. “ Daisy Bell," Mr Dash Messrs Cooper and Dash acted a* Accompanists during the evening. After the programme bad been completed tea and coffee and refresh meats of a more solid nature were handed round by the ladies, and were thoroughly appreciated by those present. The room was then cleared for dancing, which vm Kept up with great animation until about three o'clock in the morning. The piano used was one kiudly lent by Mr E. Sulli van, of Pahiatua. The entertainment proved in every way successful, and as s result the funds of the school shall benefit considerably.
