OTAGO EARLY SETTLERS’ ASSOCIATION.

The monthly meeting of the committee of the Otago Early Settlers’ Association was held in the board room on Tuesday afternoon; Mr W. H. Ferens (president) in the chair

The following gifts were received and votes of thanks passed to the donors: —From Mr 3 Waldie (Dunedin), framed portraits of her late parents, Rev. H. and Mrs Gilbert, Dunedin (Evening Star, I 860); from Mrs M. WMarryatt (Milton) framed portrait of her late brother, J. Capstick, Dunedin (Omeo, 1S61); from lit. llae (Mornington), framed photo group of George Canning’s passengers, 1857; from Clifford Williams, old copper token found in Mussel Bay, Port Chalmers; from Mrs Wishart, programme on silk of vocal and instrumental concert held in Provincial Council Hall, February, 1867, under tlie patronage of Sir George G’vy; from Mr S. Crow, manuka pile, found when excavating for new building for Co-operative Fruit Company, supposed to be part of old jetty; from Miss Reid (Abbotsford), number of books; from J. Orchiston (Wellington) piece of Cook Straits cable, laid in 1866—55 years under water in the straits; from family of Taos. Adam (Waihola), framed photo of Thos. Adam, Waihola (Strathmore, 1856), Alex. Adam, Owaka (Nourmalial, 1858), Wm. Adam, Otokia (Robert Henderson, 1858); from W. F. MacLachlan, two photos Southland Pipe Band, which visited Australia at opening of Commonwealth, 1900. The following deaths were reported: —Mrs A. Beauge, Wyndham (81), Pladda, 1860; Donald Boyd (88), Invercargill, arrived Otago 1866; H. B. Sorenson, Christchurch (78), arrived Otago 18G2; Jno. M’Queen, Invercargill, arrived Dunedin 1860; Miss Margaret Faulds, Green Island (63), arrived Dunedin early sixties; John Elliott, Tapanui (79), Gabriel’s Gully 1861; David Wilson, Flag Swamp (78), Capiolane, 1862; Duncan MTTiee, Dunedin (88), late sixties; D. G. M'Pherson, Dunedin (85), I’ladda, 1860; Mrs E. A. Mayo, Dunedin (65), Star of Tasmania, 1862; Fleming Laurenson, Wellington (31), early sixties ; Mrs J. H. Porteous, Palmerston (73), St. Vincent, 1865; James Watson, Georgetown, Sevilla, 1859; Edward Milligan, Warepa (83), early sixties; Leslie Cheyne, Invercargill (89), arrived from Melbourne 1860.

Six descendants of early settlers were enrolled as members.
