1 i With all the visting horses away from I Ellerslie matters are fairly quiet at liead- • quarters, but the Takapuna meeting at the , end of tile month will soon claim the {, attention of the local trainers. I The Takapuna Jockey Club have received 1 capital nominations for the summer meeting, the principal event-, the Takapuna Cup, attracting 15. including Sasanof. ! f Sasanof figures in the Rotorua Cup, to be 3 run at Hamilton on the 19th inst. The t handieapper took no chances with Mr i Stead's champion, awarding him 11.0. Evidently First Salute will be a com--1 petitor at the Wellington meeting, as he 1 does not figure among the Takapuna 3 nominations. With 8.9 in the Cup the son, . 3 of Salute will have to be seriously con- , 8 , sidered. _ | ■ Silver Link has llh less to carry in the , , Telegraph Handicap at t\ ellingfon than she carried in the County Handicap on the ' final day of the A.R.C. meeting, which i event she won. . p Hymestra is coming down fa-t in the £ freights. He was galloping well on the i track at Ellerslie, but failed to pick up anv stake money. P . Statuette won the Railway Handicap at Ellerslie so easily that another stone y the saddlo ought not to stop her at Weill lington.
The Hawk is still at Bllerslie. There does not seem much chance of him being seen out at Wellington. The Rotorua Jockey Club’s annual meeting will be held at Claude land 3 on the 19th inst. A good field is engaged in the Cup, including the Melbourne and Auckland Cup winners Sasanof and Starland. Tinopai, who has a good winning record in connection with the Cup, should bo handy again this year with 8.0 in the saddle. Lightning has been galloping well on the track, and ought to pick up a stake. She goes well on the country courses. Lord Bruce should go very near scoring his maiden victory. He was only beaten a head at Ellerslie among a much better class. Canowindra and Lovelight will have plenty of local support. N'ightraidef was purchased from Sir Geo. Clifford by Mr Friedlander during tho A.R.C. summer meeting, and has gone into J. Williamson’s charge. In future he will race as a gelding. Tinohoro is one of the most, discussed horses in this district at present. His performance at the recent A.R.C. meeting in running second in the minor event on the opening day and winning a £2OCO race on the third is certainly remarkable. On the day after the races R. Hannon refused 1500 gs for him. The amount received bv the Auckland Ra eing Club as its share of the totalisator investments at the recent summer meeting was £38.253, while the stake-money for the meeting amounted to £25,600.
