RACING IN NEW ZEALAND.

VINCENT RACES. First Day—Saturday, January 8

The opening day of the Vincent meeting was held on Saturday on the Lauder Domain. The weather was fine, with a bright hot sun, typical of Central Otago, and there was a good attendance, all bent on a pleasant outing. The club is to be congratulated on the improvements that have been carried out, and the management of the races was all that could be desired. Some excellent racing was witnessed, close finishes being the order of the day, showing that the handicapper knew his work. The starting of Mr Keddell was excellent, praiseworthy comment from owners and riders being treely heard. The cups were presented after the Matakanui Handicap by Mr James Horn', M.P. Mr Perriam, the driver and trainer of Bonnie Bay, returned thanks on behalf of Mr Walker, tihe owner, and Mr 1). Wilson, the owner of Palamon, winner of Mr Adams’s Lochella Cup, returned thunks on his own behalf. Tho attendance constituted a record, as did also the totalisator receipts.
