WELLINGTON NOTES.
j (From Oub Own Correspondent.) j January 13. Tho Racing Commission made a start yesterday on its tour of inspection, the Wairarapa district being the first visited. Trainers R. J. Mason, H. Cutts, and F. ' Christmas are the first to arrive at Trentham with their teams that competed at the Auckland meeting. H. Telford has sent Solfanel’.o and Mili-taii-o over to Porirua, where they will get the benefit of the sea beach for training , work. Mr J. M'Glushan, who has- been care- - taker at Trentham since the Wellington , Racing Club shifted its quarters there from the Hutt Park course, has resigned the ! position owing to ill-health, lie intends to 1 follow farming pursuits. The competitors at the Wairoa meeting were unable to get there owing to the bar ; being unworkable, and the meeting has been put back to Thursday and Saturday. The Trentham-trained fiily Capping- Day (Absurd —Graduate) met with a nasty injury' to one of her legs while running round . i a railed enclosure and will not be able to } race for some time. l’unka, who struck winning form at Xew I Year time, is a popular pick for the Wellington Cup. Statuette and Warplane, other r recent winners, are spoken of in connection with the sprint race, which event .Statuette won 12 months ago. t Accommodation has been booked at Trentham for the Southland performers, Eleus li and Silver Peak. e Mr J. E. Henry's, the well-known handit capper, is at present on a holiday visit to Rotorua. d The Waikanae Stud is sending a batch of yearlings up for auction here on the 21st d insf. 1 I There lias been no lain locally’ since ! i before Christmas, and the tracks are get- ' ting hard. The club has put on an extra 1 y. staff, who will water ihe tan track over- | 1 night. The course proper will also be well ! watered prior to the meeting. ’’ 1.. Wilson is bringing three horses to tho \ meeting, including Maioha, who did so well ' at Auckland. Chrysostom and Humbug, the other members of IT. Jefferd’s team entered. Y will both be brought to the meeting. ; e The North Island horses which competed _ with success at the West Coast meetings arrived back here to-day. (1 The bowling tournament being held here it has attracted several poop’e prominent in I- the racing world. One Christchurch rink g includes Mr Alf. Dickson, the well-known ' -t turf scribe and judge, and Mr W. IT. It M'Dougall, the totalisator proprietor. So t. far they have gone through without a u defeat.
