_ The monthly meeting of the Waikouaiti Comity Council was held on Friday, wh&l there were present Crs A. S. Orbell (chairman), P. Briscoe,, C. M'Lachlan, R. Marshall, E. Laley, and J. M'GihV The Secretary of the Otago Hospital and Charitable Aid Board wrote requesting advance payment of the amount du e by the council on the financial levy for the year.— Granted.
P. O'Connell (Hawksbury Bush) wrote requesting permission to fence off a strip of roadline ifo enable his cattle to have access to • water.—Referred to inspector for a report.
The Valuer-general wrote requesting the council to appoint, an assessor in connection with the valuation of the county.—Mr John Maxwell was appointed. T. O'Connell wrote resigning his position as surfaceman for the North-East Valley Biding.—Resignation accepted; applications to be called for the position. =W. Black (ELaritane) asked permission to put up a fence across a by street running up from the Government fishing station, aa : it was not in use. The private road neax his house was the one used by the public.--Referred to the inspector foir a report: The Inspector reported that the metalling contract-on the main road in the Hawksbury Riding had been started, part of the road between the bridge and the boundary having been metalled and blinded. Twelve ; tons of metal had been spread on Mill road, and Nankivel's and Townsend's roads had been gravelled. The rottd from Mount Royal to Mr Overton's ran could be im-~i proved by putting in a 18in pipe in a \ hollow, and raising the road'; at a cost of '■ £5. It would cost about £3 10s per chain : to gravel the end . nearest Mount Royal. ' The metalling contract on the Main road > was completed in Merton'Riding. Several portions of the Main, road on the Kilmog and Scott's Hill had been blinded and watertables cleaned out. Twenty-five tons of metal had been spread on the. Merton Station arid Karitane roads. Reid's road, at OmimK was being surfaced, and culverts would be put in as soon as the pipes arrived. A 6in pipe, was required on the road near Omimi to replace an old culvert. Minor repairs' in tlie~Bluoskin and NorthEast Valley Ridings wore abef reported on., —The report was adopted, the inspector to proceed . with the works recommended by him.
