TIMPANYS.

May 9. —A large gathering assembled at Mr S. Minoher's, of Timpanys., on Friday to welcome home Trooper M. Mincher, who has been on active service in Egypt for some two years. At a suitable interval Mr J. R. Tapper explained the main object of the gathering, which was to extend to Trooper Mincher a hearty welcome on his safe return. At his request Mr R. Wilson presented Trooper Mincher with a handsome gold albert, referring in felicitous terms to the soldier's "food qualities, his remarks being endorsed by Messrs Sayer and M'Leod. Dancing was indulged, the proceedings being varied by musical items by Mrs Findlay and Miss Wilkins (piano), Mrs Tapper, Misses Calder and Sim (songs), and a recitation by Miss Pettigrew. Mrs F. Newton made an efficient M.C. and Messrs Matbeson and M'Leod '(violins) supplied capital music. Timpanys is, practically unknown to the outside world, but it will not' be always so. It is only nine miles from Invercargill, and it is not an extravagant statement to predict its absorption by the rapidly spreading town in ano very distant future. I do not_ think it is going too far to say thaj; Timpanys holds a world's record at the present time._ On Mr Wm. Nicholson's farm, near the siding, may be seen an old mare followed by twin foals, the three of them in first-class condition. The foals are both colts and a perfect match, creamcoloured. The mare, both before and after foaling, received no special attention, and has had to fend for herself amongst other stock in the natural pasture—bush land.
