HERBERT.

May 12.—The weather has been lovely for tho time of year—frosty mornings- and bright, sunny days.

Church Services.—Special Easter services were hold in Herbert Presbyterian Church, when the Rev. P. O. Rennie was the There were good congregations; one special feature was the singing of "O rest in the Lord" and "The Lord is mindful" by Mrs M'Ghie, a sweet singer from Dunechn, who sang with fine sympathy, and was a musical treat. Harvest thanksgiving services were observed last Sunday, May 4. The church was beautifully decorated by tho workers, and much credit is due to the convenor (Mr Robertson)' for the fine blending of colour. Autumn tints prevailed. Tho choir sang several anthems during tho services, to which much pract : ce had been given. On Tuesday evening the sale of the produce took place in tho Athenaeum. There was a large attendance of buyers, and the gifts so kindly given were soon disposed of, the amount, totalling over £2O, is for the various missions and schemes of tho church. This is one of the many attractions that always anneals to the people, and to which thev give liberally. Tho workers deserve credit for the way in which they carried out tho «tlo to such a successful i:-vue. The stallholders were: Miscellaneous stall, Mesdames P. C. Renn : e, J. Homing, Wai. M'Millan, and Miss Ross;

sweets —Misses Reid, Wilson, and Morrison: produce—Messrs A. Forbes, Robertson, and E. Ross; refreshments —Miss Munro (con venor), Mesdames Wm. Robertson, W. Ross, E. Ross, D. Morrison, Irvine, and Miss Kirton.

Personal.—Sister Christabel paid a short visit to the district, and was the guest of the Rev. and Mrs P; C. Ronnie. During her stay Mrs Ronnie gave one of her most enjoyable afternoon teas to the lady members of the P.W.M.U. to meet Sister Christabel, whose visit was much appreciated.
