BANNOCKBURN.
April 11 —The third concrete 'column ; at the Cromwell Development Company s scheme on the Kawarau River was lowered on Saturday, March 29. As the event was not made public, only a few residents witnessed the event. The column was an 18ft cubic block, and its purpose was to close a gap between the first column lowered and the bank. The result of the charge was exactly as was desired, and this contractors are to be congratulated on the success of their efforts. -A great deal of work is yet required to complete the weir. Harvest Thanksgiving—The harvest thanksgiving service was held in. the Bannockburn Presbyterian Church on Sunday, March 30. when the Rev. YV.P. Rankin conducted the services. Ihe oh'urch was decorated with fruit, vegetables preserves, etc., which were afterwards sent to the Presbyterian Orphanage, Dunedin. Cricket.—On Saturday afternoon, the sth hist., a visiting team composed of men on •the Public Works, Cromwell, visited Bannockburn, and played a match, which resulted in a substantial win for the visitors. As the local team had not had any previous practice, the result was a foregone conclusion. A* short dance at night finished up the day's sport. Licensing.—A large number of the residents of this district made their way to the polling both on the lOrh inst. to record their votes. The result for Bannockburn was a majority for continuance.
