WAIRUNA.

January 27.—Wet weather continues, with little sign of improvement. AH classes of farm work are «t,a standstill, the ground being in much too wet a state to work, and if the weather does not soon improve the result will be disastrous, as a great deal of winter feed has still to. be sown, which should have been put in about a month ago. Shearing.—This operation is finished in mo3t places, and has been a most tedious and trying time on account of the bad weather. I understand as a general rule the clip is lighter than in previous years. Picnic.—A combined Sunday School and day school picnic is being held next Wednesday in the school grounds. This picnic i 3 to take the place of a treat for the ohi 1 - dren instead of the usual break-up concent, which was not held last year on account of the influenza epidemic. If the weather on that day is our usual weather for this season it will indeed be a "picnic," but we sincerely hope the day will be fine. Returning Soldiers.—We are pleased to Bee quite a number of our boys returning, and from all appearances before long we will be welcoming many more back into our midst. The latest returning drafts have brought several Clinton boys, but so far only one Wairuna boy in the person of Private Jas. Block. Jim has been wounded on two different occasions, and was invalided home on account of the second wound. We congratulate him on his safe return, and trust that he will soon be restored to good' health.
