MILBURN AND CLARENDON.

January 25.—The weather continues very unsettled, but the grain crops, though late, are looking very well; indeed, some are already starting to lie down, owing to the rank growth. Harvest will probably be a month later than usual. Grass is abundant, and the shearing is practically over. The turnip crop is very patchy; some fields have come away splendidly, while others have been badly affected with the fly and weeds. Many farmers have had to resow, which is rather a new experience about here. Personal. —Word was recently received that Sergeant Bert Riddell haa been awarded the Military Medal for gallantry on the field of action.

Welcome Home.—Since last report we have had the pleasure of welcoming two of our local soldiers home. Private Dave Raitt arrived last month and Lieutenant Goorge Riddell came home last Wednesday .night. Both aro looking fairly well considering what they have come through. A public welcome to all the returned local soldiers will be held at a later date.

Phosphate Works. —A start has been made with the new tramway, linking up the phosphate quarries and the new building the Clarendon. The work of erecting the •machinery is considerably delayed owing to the shortage of labour.

Church Service.—The evening service at Milburn Church last Sunday was acceptably conducted by Sergeant Tweedie, a returned soldier.
