ALLEGED STRIKE
. WELLINGTON, May 12. Six of the Maori's firemen were prosecuted to-day on a charge of partaking in a strike of the vessel's firemen and trimmers in Wellington on March 17 while bound by an industrial agreement. A penalty of £lO was claimed from each defendant. While at Lyttelton on the 16th the men had demanded the name of the man who informed against Lodder, one of their mates, who was dismissed for drunkenness, and on being told that the man was unknown they declared that if the name was not forthcoming they would leave the ship. They gave notice accordingly, and left the ship at Wellington, inconveniencing a large number of travellers. Mr O'Regan, for ihe men, submitted that their action did not constitute a strike, they having given the notice required by law. Decision was reserved.
