FOODSTUFFS IN AUSTRALIA

SYDNEY, July 16. In the New South Wales Legislative Assembly Mr Graham stated that the Government intended guaranteeing a price of 4s per bushel for the wheat grown in the additional areas during the coming harvest. If the growers got more, all the better. The Minister also outlined the scheme for the bulk handling of wheat. It will provide an elevator capacity of 1,£00,000 at Sydney, with 55 smaller ele-, vators in the country. The whole cost of the scheme will be £3,250,000. July 19. A steamer has arrived with big consignments of American wheat, butter, cheese, and fodder. This has somewhat relieved the famine in these commodities. Giving evidence before the Commodities Commission in favour of an increase in the price of oatmeal, Mr Scott (manager for Parsons Bros.) stated that foreign oats showed 40 per cent, more husk and waste, and also 10 per cent, more dust and rubbish, than New Zealand oats.
