WHEN TIME RULES LIFE AND DEATH.

When War and Death stood side by side And saw their awful crime, Sweet Life stood weeping by the way To plead with Father Time. “Oh, Father Time,” she cried, “enough 1 I cannot quell this tide That’s bearing all my eons away. Enough, oh Time, enough!” Then Father Time led Life aside To look at future years; He showed her what he had in store, And quelled her doubts and fears. So Life returned, now brave and strong, No more her face to hide, She took the sword and said, “No more Will you my people wrong.” And when the grey of Dawn creeps in, When Peace comes back again, No more will War and Death unite To cause our loved ones pain. For then will War be slain by Death, No more the battle’s din Shall settle whether might is right. When Time rules Life and Death. —Donald M’Donald.
