LABOUR DAY CELEBRATIONS.

AUCKLAND, October 27.

Glorious weather prevailed for the Labour Day celebrations. The usual procession was held, and was followed by a sports gathering at the Domain. In the Amateur Halfmile Race, A. Dormer, from scratch, won in Imin 58 l-ssec, which equals his New Zealand record for the distance. He won without being pushed, and hud ho been challenged could easily have clipped a second off the record. In the chopping match between D. Pretty and G. M‘Cauley, for the best out of three chops. Pretty won t-ho first two chops and' the match. Ho got through a 12-inch log in 2miu 3sec and a 15-inch log in 4min 35scc. The pair afterwards gave an exhibition underhand chop. Pretty conceding a handicap of 20 seconds, and winning. WELLINGTON, October 27. The weather to-day was sunny, but windy. There was no special celebrations of the Labour Day holiday. An historical pageant at Newtown Park attracted about 10,000 people, a Labour Day carnival at Petone drew an attendance of 2000, and a Labour party picnic at Day's Ray wa-s also very well patronised, between 3000 and 4000 people making the trio over the water. CHRISTCHURCH, October 27. The weather was hot but windy for the holiday to-day. All outdoor excursions and attractions wore largely patronised.
