gone through, and great interest was manifested in the various events decided, some of whicli were closely' contested. The only competition in which a competitor was con-sidex-ed too good for the opposition was in the section for “ General Excellence in Dancing,” in which Miss M’Donald. of Port Chalmers, who entered, was excluded on account of her supei'ior skill. However, the officials decided to award her a special prize after having seen an exhibit.on given bv this voting dancer. The sports wVre well conducted, and the officials and members of the committee are to be congratulated upon the success of the gathering. Messrs Breen and Haymes officiated as press stewards, and carried out their duties admirably. The results of the sports arc as follow: — 100 Yards Race, for hoys under 15 years— A. Nicholas 1, L. M‘Allen 2. Seven others competed. Girls’ Race, 75 yards—Phyllis Pullar 1, Madge Mackeldcn 2. There were 20 competitors. A good race, won by five yards. Amateur Handicap, 220 yards—V. Barton, 9yds, 1; F. Perkins, scratch, 2. Also started: W. Caddie Byds, G. Crimp Byds, S. Govan 12yds, A. M. Conner 15yds, A. Jarvis 14yds. Barton ran to the front shortly after the start, and won easily at the finish. There was a good race for second place, Perkins getting up and heating Govan by a foot on the post. Time. 22sec. Single Ladies’ Race, 75 yards—Miss D. Belles 1, M'ss N. Douglas 2. There were 12 competitors. Sack Race, for hoys—G. Waterman 1, A. Nicholas 2. There were eight starters. . Amateur Handicap, 100 yards—V. Barton, 6yds, 1; A. Connor, Byds, 2. Also started: F. Perkins scratch, \V. Caddie 4yds, G. Dallas syds, F. Crimp Byds, A. Jarvis 9yds. Connor led to within 15yds of the tape, when Barton sprinted past him and won with a little in hand. Time, lOsec. One Mile and a-ha!f Amateur Handicap, for members of harrier clubs —J. M'Lennan, 95yds, 1; G. Tapp, 90yds, 2. Also started: A. Tracey scratch, G. Kitchen scratch, W. Myall 35yds, G. Slater 95yds, W. Dawson 96ds, J, Hasrio 100yds, G. Blay 100yds. Blay was (ho only other competitor to finish; He led from the start with Hastio, but at the mile post M'Lennan was in command. Tapp improved his position going along the back, and when the far turn was reached had run into second place. M'Lennan continued in the van, and eventually ran in an easy winer by about 50yds from Tapp, who was 25yds in front of Blay. Blay x-ccovercd a. lot of the ground ho lost going along the back stretch. Time. 7min 50sec. Half-mile Handicap.—S. ■Govan, 25yds, 1; II Robinson, 25yds, 2. Also started: G. Crimp scratch, A. Tracey 15yds, F. Perkins 20yds, W. Myall 25yds. S. Campbell 25yds, W. Caddie 30yds, J. M'Lennan 35yds, R. Tracey 40yds, W. Dawson 40yds. S. Govan was well placed throughout, and in the run home won nicely by 10yds. Time, 2min sscc. Waltzing Competition—Mr and Mrs E. Walker 1. Mr W. Colo and Miss Douglas 2, Mr J. Ncwlands and Miss Dowling 3. Five-milo Race—.J. M'Lauchlan, Imin 30scc. 1; G. Tapp, 2min 65scc, 2; L. Henderson. Imin 45500, 5. Also started: E. Kelly scratch, G. Kitchen 2min. J. Hawkins 2min 45sec, G. Blay smin 30src. Blay led for a lap and a-ha!f, when he was overhauled and passed by Kitchen and Tapp. The former of this pair dropped out at the end of the second lap, and M‘Lauchlan ran into second place. At the end of the third circuit MT.'chlan had headed Tapp, and, going on, won hv a few hundred yards, Henderson, a similar distance away, third. Time. 29min 40scc. General Excellence in Dancing (adults): Highland fling, sailor's hornpipe, Irish jig (in costume) —D. Macdonald, 390 points, 1; II Macdonald, 380 points, 2; G. Anderson, 340 points, 3. Married Ladies’ Race —Mrs Grady 1. Mrs M'Kay and Mrs Jackson (equal) 2. There were 17 entries. General Excellence in Dancing for boys and girls under 16 years—Miss Lockhart. 299 points, 1; Miss Loudon. 280 points, 2; Miss Frame, 272 points, 3. There were 11 competitors. - Bagpipe Competition (marches) J. M'Callum 1. J. Morrison 2. J. Higgins 3. Tliere wore five competitors.
